Monotype Print Workshop

with Amanda Barrow

Please contact Amanda for information about upcoming workshops.

Have you ever wanted to make a monotype print? Monotype prints are one-of-a-kind prints, all unique! Imagine painting on a sheet of plastic, placing paper over it, then running it through my printing press. Voila, the image comes out on the paper in reverse to how you painted it. Come have fun and play with water-based inks, brush, stencils, and different papers to create your one-of-a-kind prints using my printing press. No experience necessary with the printing process; three students maximum per workshop means personal and attentive attention from the teacher.

We will begin with introductions with students sharing goals for the class, following up with looking at examples of monotype prints, then finishing the morning with a discussion regarding the printing process and technique on the press. We'll take a break for questions and lunch, and launch into printing in the afternoon until 2.30 pm. Clean up is simple, because we use water-based ink!

Students, please bring a couple examples of your own work if you have them, not necessary. Also, please bring your own brushes to work with (if you have them), or any other textures you may wish to employ in your imagery.

Cost: $170 including ink, materials, and paper (water-based IKUA inks, and 8" x 12" plexi-glas plates to work on will remain at studio after workshop); each student will receive three pieces of Masa 21" x 31" pieces of paper to keep and use during the workshop, as well as other try-out papers. You may also bring your own paper to print on. Three students maximum for each class.

These workshops will take place in Amanda's studio, One Cottage St., #415, Easthampton, MA. Private lessons and small group instruction also available upon request. To register for workshops, please contact
